The article provides an overview of Uruguay's winter crop harvest for 2024, covering 742,000 hectares predominantly with wheat, barley, and rapeseed. Wheat is the leading crop, with a significant portion coming from labeled seed or unknown origin, while barley is mainly used for malting, supporting the brewing sector's growth. Rapeseed, a flexible crop that has decreased in area for two consecutive years, is efficiently rotated with other crops, with 95.8% of its cultivation in fields not previously used for the crop. The article also highlights the importance of crop rotation and the use of seed with 98% accuracy, as obtained through remote sensing, in optimizing crop planning and resource use.
