The Director of the Department of Production and Processing of Crop Products of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Azat Sultanov, has corrected misconceptions and inaccuracies stated by deputy Irina Smirnova at a briefing. Contrary to Smirnova's claims, Kazakhstan does not have an 80% dependence on imported products for main socially significant food products but instead imports 25-48% of six types of foodstuffs. The Ministry of Agriculture is implementing a Comprehensive Import Substitution Plan for 2021-2023 to increase production of these products, with plans to launch numerous poultry farms, meat processing enterprises, sugar plant, fish cultivation projects, and intensive orchards. Additionally, the negative balance of imported agricultural products has decreased by 45% over the past 5 years, and the Ministry is focusing on the development of domestic socially significant goods, while necessary imports of exotic and raw materials are needed due to Kazakhstan's climatic conditions.
