On July 13, the 14th Shrimp Industry Development Conference, co-hosted by the China Aquatic Products Circulation and Processing Association and the China-ASEAN Marine Aquaculture Technology "Belt and Road" Joint Laboratory, opened in Guangzhou. The conference, themed "Gathering Momentum and Driving Global Industry Collaborative Development", aims to create a professional platform for international industry exchange and cooperation. The main forum on "New Trends in Shrimp Industry" featured industry authorities who in-depth analyzed current global shrimp production, trade, and market changes, the development difficulties and challenges faced, and shared the latest value-added transformation plans and practical paths, providing forward-looking and operational new insights for optimizing and upgrading the shrimp industry's layout.
Cui He, President of the China Aquatic Products Circulation and Processing Association, delivered a keynote report on "China's Shrimp Development Situation"
Cui He provided an in-depth interpretation of "China's Shrimp Development Situation", comprehensively presenting the current status and trends of Chinese shrimp in import and export trade, aquaculture, and market aspects. He analyzed that in aquatic product import and export trade, China's trade in 2024 saw breakthroughs, with total imports reaching 11.1 million tons, with shrimp trade volume and value still ranking first. In recent years, shrimp aquaculture has shown distinctive changes in cultivation area and output. Northern regions like Shandong's Dongying and Binzhou previously saw significant area increases, with growth slowing in recent years; southern regions, constrained by cultivation area, shifted to intensive farming, with small shed cultivation and land-based factory farming becoming the main growth directions. However, in recent years, shrimp market prices have been low, small shed shrimp cultivation area stabilized after years of growth, and land-based factory farming did not increase. Particularly, many areas switched to farming Penaeus vannamei instead of Pacific white shrimp for better economic benefits, leading to a decline in China's total shrimp production in 2024. By species, while Pacific white shrimp remains the main variety, its cultivation area and output have both decreased, Chinese shrimp farming remained stable, and Japanese and Penaeus vannamei shrimp production increased.
