The number of buffalo in Turkey decreased by 16 percent compared to 2020, reaching 158 thousand heads. According to the "Livestock Statistics" data from June 2020 and 2025 obtained from the TÜİK Balıkesir Regional Directorate, the number of cattle was 17 million 189 thousand heads. In the cattle category, the number of cattle increased by 1.2 percent compared to December of the previous year, reaching 17 million 30 thousand heads by the end of June, while the number of buffalo decreased by 2.3 percent to 158 thousand heads. The number of cattle decreased by 7.6 percent compared to 2020, reaching 17 million 30 thousand. The decrease over the last 5 years was 1 million 396 thousand units.
