The oil content in the sunflower harvest in Ukraine is below that of last season, while the acidity level exceeds all normal values.

During the current agricultural season, the sunflower harvest in Ukraine, apart from higher moisture, also has lower oil content – 48-50%, or approximately 2 percentage points below that of last season, said Konstantin Taranov, chief broker at Getreide AG Ukraine, as cited by the electronic edition Latifundist. Taranov reported that some farmers have not yet harvested the sunflower, with moisture in the seeds much higher than last year when the harvest ended in October with an average moisture content of 7%. Additionally, the acidity in the unharvested sunflower exceeds all normal values, which points to an unnoticed damage to the seeds and even their complete spoilage, while also greatly reducing the quality of the oil obtained. This season, sunflower harvest forecasts in Ukraine are around 10 million tons.
