In Ukraine, the sunflower crop for the 2025/26 season, apart from increased humidity, has lower oil content—at the level of 48-50%, which is approximately 2% less than last year when the average oil content was a record 50-52%. This was reported by Konstantin Taranov, chief trader of Getreide AG Ukraine, writes Latifundist.com. According to him, some farmers still have sunflower standing in the fields, and the moisture content of the seeds is much higher than last year (in 2024, the harvesting campaign ended in October, and the average moisture content was 7%). Also, in the unharvested sunflower, the acid number "spikes," indicating hidden seed damage or complete spoilage, and greatly reduces the quality of the output oil. The actual available sunflower crop in Ukraine for the current season is forecast at 10 million tons. However, the general director of "Yurievsky Plant of Natural Oil" Vladimir Tkach assures that "despite market fears, there will be sunflower for processing": ...
