Pistachios are a resilient crop that is increasingly being adopted in Argentina, particularly in regions where traditional crops like olives and vines are no longer viable due to climate change. The plant can thrive in both hot and cold extremes, making it a viable option for areas previously suited for other agriculture. Martín Zanetti, CEO of Vivero Productosa, has observed a shift towards nut cultivation, especially pistachios, in areas where vineyards are being reduced due to climate change and altered consumption patterns. This change is supported by the development of pistachio production in vitro, which enhances clonal uniformity and vigor. The demand for pistachios is on the rise, with the crop finding use in various food applications and as a direct snack.
