The recent potato campaign concluded with a production of nearly 1.94 million tonnes, achieving an average price at source 65% higher than the last five campaigns and 22% above the previous year. The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food highlighted a 1.7% increase in exports from last year and a 19% rise over the five-year average, reaching a record value of over 177 million euros. Prices surged in 2024 due to shorter campaigns in Andalusia and Murcia and reduced production in France, with the national average price at 0.57 euros per kilogram. Despite these positive trends, fresh potato consumption has dropped by 3% from 2023 and 11% from the average, prompting calls to promote national production and reduce dependency on imports.
