The article highlights the significant increase in the prices of essential food items in Iran over the past few years. Between February 2017 and February 2016, Pakistani basmati rice saw the highest price increase at 122.5%, followed by Thai, Tarom Ala, and domestic Hashemi rice, and chicken meat. The prices of white sugar and 900-gram sugar packages also rose by 68.8% and 68.2%, respectively. However, the price of beef and mutton increased the most, nearly tripling, with beef and mutton costing 37,000 and 39,000 tomans per kilo in February 2017, compared to 37,000 and 39,000 tomans in February 2013. Chicken meat prices also almost tripled, reaching 22,000 tomans per kilo in February 2017.
