In 2020, Turkey experienced a significant decrease in spirits consumption by 19 million 981 thousand liters, totaling 1 billion liters. The most notable decline was in beer, followed by vodka and wine. However, whiskey consumption increased. Raki, a popular Turkish drink, saw a decrease in both domestic market supply and exports due to the pandemic and advertising restrictions. Despite the decrease in consumption, alcoholic beverages contribute around 3.5% to the state's tax income, with the state receiving over 94 billion liras in excise tax on alcohol in the past 13 years.
