The risks of a new bee disease were discussed at the Ufa Federal Research Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences

Today, an educational seminar on selection and diseases of honey bees was held at the Ufa Federal Research Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences. About 30 beekeepers from all over the Republic of Bashkortostan took part in the event. The head of the beekeeping laboratory of the Federal Agricultural Research Center of the North-East, Doctor of Agricultural Sciences Anna Brandorf, gave a report on the risks of a new bee disease. “In a bee colony, you can find up to 130 species of mites, of which only two are parasitic, while the Varroa mite is well known, you should also know about the invasive disease tropilelapsosis, which is caused by the Tropilaelaps mite. The new disease is actively spreading in the southern regions. The mite quite strongly affects bee colonies; its development cycle is 25 times faster than the mite of the genus Varroa, which also causes a parasitic disease of honey bees.
