The Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade in Egypt is investigating price discrepancies in ration sugar distributed to supply merchants who purchased in excess of the set quotas. Instead of the usual replacement value calculation, the Ministry is considering a higher value of 16 pounds per kilo of sugar, compared to the standard 10.5 pounds, to determine the price differences. The merchants storing at the two wholesale companies are expected to pay the adjusted amounts. This action is part of the Ministry's efforts to ensure the efficient distribution of strategic commodities like sugar to the public through authorized outlets.
