The Spanish dairy sector, especially Galicia, is facing a potential impact from an anti-subsidy investigation by China into certain dairy products from the EU. This investigation, a response to EU tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles, will review subsidy programs in countries including Ireland, Austria, Belgium, and more. Spain's national dairy industry association, Fenil, insists that the aid received by EU milk producers is compatible with World Trade Organization standards and expresses hope for support from the European Commission. In the meantime, Fenil is advocating for trade disputes to be confined to the electric vehicle sector to prevent undue impact on other sectors like dairy. Despite a decrease in overall sales in 2023, some Spanish dairy categories, such as cheeses, are showing positive growth.
