The president of the Ukrainian Fruit and Vegetable Association, Taras Bashtannyk, has stated that Ukraine has experienced a significant decrease in its berry harvest, with losses ranging from 50 to 75% in the north, west, and center of the country. This is due to spring frosts and extended rains, with the garden strawberry crop suffering almost everywhere except for the south of Vinnytsia and Odesa. Despite a 15-20% increase in prices, producers have not been able to recoup their losses and have been forced to sell at lower prices due to improper presentation. The short shelf life of the berries has also prevented them from entering the fresh market.
