Spain: The Urbezo PDO was recognized by the EU

The European Union has registered the new Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) for “Urbezo” wine and its registration in the register of protected geographical indications. The regulation has been published in the Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU). With this approval, “Urbezo” becomes the 104th PDO in Spain and the sixth in the Autonomous Community of Aragon. In addition, it is the 26th wine from the “Urbezo” wine estate recognised by the European Union and the second from Aragon to obtain such a distinction. The application was submitted in March 2019 by the winery owner. This estate, located in the municipality of Cariñena (Zaragoza), covers just over 230 hectares of land. It is located at an altitude of about 490 metres in the foothills of the Sierra de Algairén and enjoys exceptional climatic and geographical conditions.
