In April, American fishermen called on the Marine Stewardship Council to prohibit Russian fishermen from using international eco-friendly fishing certificates. This comes as Russia's production of pollock fillets exceeded that of the United States for the first time in 2022, reaching 139,000 tons. Russia has expanded its fish exports to 80 countries, with a significant increase in supply to foreign markets, totaling 2.5 million tons by the end of 2023. Major buyers of Russian fish products include China, South Korea, the Netherlands, and Japan. The United States is striving to reclaim its market dominance, which currently favors high-quality Russian fish.
