Peruvian avocado cultivation has seen a significant increase, with a projected doubling of production areas by the end of 2022, covering approximately 43,000 hectares. The main regions for this growth are La Libertad, Lambayeque, and Lima, positioning avocado as a key agricultural product for exports. Despite this growth, the global logistics crisis has led to a shift in import preferences towards closer sources, resulting in lower prices in certain markets like Europe. This has challenged Peruvian exporters, leading some to redirect their shipments to markets such as North America and Asia. The United States, in particular, has experienced challenges with Mexican avocado imports due to production drops and temporary import bans, creating opportunities for Peruvian exporters to fill the gap.
