A study by Europages reveals that Ireland offers the cheapest Spanish extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) in Europe, with Aldi pricing it at 5.49 euros per liter, while Hungary has the highest prices at 18.99 euros per liter in Auchan. Despite Spain's VAT reduction on olive oil, the lowest price in Spanish supermarkets is 8.95 euros per liter at Mercadona. The study highlights significant price variations across European countries and even within the same supermarket chains. Outside Europe, EVOO prices also vary, with La Española brand costing 8.99 euros per liter in Japan and 14.80 euros in Poland. Olive oil is a major Spanish export, with Italy, the United States, and Portugal being the top destinations, and recent trends show increased exports to Italy and the UK, but a decline in Asian and Oceanian markets.
