The Secretary of Agriculture and Rural Development, Napoleón González Pérez, has expressed his disagreement with the maguey ban implemented by the LXV legislature. During a meeting with local deputies, he urged them to review the law and provide support to maguey producers. The Secretary also mentioned that the Ministry of Agriculture has distributed over half a million maguey seedlings in the past two years. Despite the maguey ban, the Secretary does not believe there is overexploitation of the plant and emphasized that it is the only plant that can be worked all year round. The Ministry has invested 18 million pesos this year to support maguey seedlings and has agreements with municipalities and socially responsible companies to deliver more than a million seeds for germination.
