The Board of Directors of ANPCA convened at the Las Pedroñeras International Garlic Fair to assess the 2024 garlic campaign, highlighting a 14% reduction in cultivated area from 2023, with purple garlic now under 40% of the total area for the first time. Despite this, production levels remained stable due to higher yields and favorable weather. International demand has fallen short due to competition from China, Egypt, and Turkey, and increased local production in Brazil. ANPCA is concerned about the decline in purple garlic cultivation and is advocating for integrated production in Castilla-La Mancha and seeking clarity on EU import tariffs to safeguard the market. ANPCA continues to be the largest European garlic association, representing 80% of Spain's and 65% of Europe's marketed garlic.
