The Commission of Natural Resources and Rural Development (CORNADR) of Mexico City's Environment Ministry has initiated a project to rescue and rehabilitate bee swarms and wild colonies found in urban areas, which are often threatened by vandalism or poor relocation practices. The project aims to preserve these hives by rehabilitating them in CORNADR apiaries and then delivering them to local beekeepers for honey production. The initiative has already successfully recovered 14 hives out of 41 reported lost in the city, with plans to continue supporting beekeepers through financial, training, and marketing resources. Additionally, the project includes training 300 firefighters to manage beehives in urban areas, reducing the workload on CORNADR technicians. This effort underscores the importance of bees in agriculture and the need to protect their habitats.
