Trump threatens Mexico with tariffs in water dispute

In a post on the Truth Social platform, Trump stated that Mexico has violated the treaty over the past 5 years and that it "owes" the U.S. 800 thousand acre-feet (about 987 million m³) of water. The U.S. President also demanded that the country release 200 thousand acre-feet (about 247 million m³) of water before December 31, with the remainder to be released shortly thereafter. "So far, Mexico is not responding and this is very unfair to our American farmers, who deserve this much-needed water. That is why I authorized the imposition of a 5% tariff on Mexico if this water is not released immediately. The longer Mexico takes to release the water, the more our farmers will be harmed. Mexico has the obligation to resolve this now," declared Trump.
