A report by Fruitnews reveals that global fig exports increased by 4% in 2019, reaching 130 thousand tonnes, despite a drop in value to $467 million. Turkey emerged as the largest exporter, contributing 65% of the total, followed by Spain, Germany, the Netherlands, Syria, Greece, the United States, France, and Iran. While Morocco, the world's third-largest producer, ranked low in exports, its figs were primarily consumed locally. Globally, fig imports surged by 10% to 162,000 tonnes, with India, Germany, France, the United States, and the United Kingdom being the leading importers, accounting for 49% of total imports. Other significant importers included Russia, Austria, Italy, the Netherlands, Canada, Vietnam, and Switzerland, making up an additional 20% of imports.
