The Turkish aquaculture sector has seen a significant growth in exports, which increased by 65 percent in the last 5 years, reaching 1.7 billion dollars in 2023. The sector ranks as the second largest in the world for trout production and is the largest producer of sea bass and sea bream in Europe. Turkey exports aquatic products to over 100 countries and is working to exceed 2 billion dollars in exports by 2028. The ministry of Agriculture and Forestry is focusing on meeting animal protein needs through aquaculture, as it already contributes to 60 percent of the sector's production in Turkey. Turkey is a net exporter of seafood products, with approximately 80 percent of exports being fish produced on farms. The country is also investing in initiatives related to blue transformation and climate change adaptation in the fisheries and aquaculture sector.
