The National Union of Cane Growers of Ecuador (UNCE) has reported to the Ministry of Agriculture (MAG) that the sugar industry is not paying the new minimum price of $35.05 per ton of cane, as set by the MAG in June. This issue could potentially impact small producers and the production forecast for 2023. The MAG is now set to conduct necessary controls. Meanwhile, the president of the National Sugar Federation, Laura Zurita, has been unreachable for comment. Small producers are worried and anticipate a swift official payment to avoid further financial losses.
