New import requirements for tomato and pepper plants in the UK have been introduced due to viroids, but exporting countries may not be able to meet these requirements. To ensure a continued supply of young pepper and tomato plants in GB, Defra will accept alternative declarations on phytosanitary certificates until April 26, 2024. Quarantine pests such as Citrus exocortis viroid and Pepper chat fruit viroid will continue to be monitored in tomato and pepper fruit production nurseries to ensure freedom from these pests.
