The Green Alliance is calling on the UK government to do more to reduce methane emissions from agriculture. The government has proposed mandating the use of methane suppressants by 2030 and creating a Dairy Demonstrator program, but the alliance says there is a lack of support for farmers to use these products. In contrast, farmers in Belgium and Slovenia are receiving subsidies of up to 80% of the costs. The use of the methane suppressant, Bovaer, in animal feed has been approved by the UK's Food Standards Agency. The Green Alliance argues that subsidying methane suppressants for farmers would be a cost-effective way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
