The UK saw a decrease in pig meat export volume in the first quarter of 2024, with a total of 75,500 tonnes, marking a 5.1% year-on-year drop and the lowest first-quarter figure since 2015. This decline was largely due to a 10.8% drop in fresh/frozen pork exports. However, there was a positive trend in the export of offal and processed pig meat, which reached their highest record volumes at 35,300 tonnes and 4,400 tonnes respectively. The EU27 and China were the largest consumers of UK pig meat, accounting for 42% and 38% of the market share respectively. Import volume also saw a decrease, with a total of 182,300 tonnes, marking a 1.9% year-on-year drop. Bacon and processed pig meat experienced the largest losses in volumes.
