Ukraine is capitalizing on a European Union onion shortage and falling domestic prices by increasing its onion exports. The country has expanded its supply volume to Romania and Moldova and has begun exporting to Bulgaria, Greece, and North Macedonia for the first time. Despite a recent price drop, a recovery is expected after the sale of surplus low-quality onions. However, high stocks in Central Asian countries and the upcoming new harvest mean that the price records from spring 2023 are unlikely to be repeated. Ukraine's onion exports may continue due to the potential for record high prices in the EU in March-April 2024.
