In 2024, Ukraine saw a significant increase in pea harvest area by 40% compared to 2023, resulting in the country's largest pea crop in three years with a total of 465,000 tons harvested across 212,000 hectares. The highest yields were reported in the Odesa, Mykolaiv, Kirovohrad, and Kharkiv regions. The yield variation was largely influenced by the rainfall patterns during late April and May. Peas in crop rotation are noted to enhance the yield of subsequent crops by leaving behind nitrogen. For the 2023-24 marketing year, Ukraine's main pea export destinations included Turkey, Italy, Bangladesh, India, and Malaysia, experiencing high prices due to the expiration and repeated extension of 50% tariff abolition by India until the end of the year.
