Ukrainian importers have fully utilized the duty-free import quota of pork from the European Union (EU) from January to August, importing 20,000 tons of chilled and frozen pork. Once this quota is exhausted, additional European pork will incur a 12% customs duty on chilled pork and a 10% duty on frozen pork. So far, Ukraine has not maximized its duty-free pork supply agreements with Canada and the UK, importing only a fraction of the allocated quota from these countries. The analysis firm ACS suggests that the early exhaustion of these quota balances, compared to previous years, is driving an increase in imports of cheaper raw meat.
