South-central Brazil's sugarcane productivity is projected to increase by 8.5% in the 2022/23 cycle, leading to a supply of approximately 560 million tons, an over 6% rise from the previous year, according to Unica. However, the planted area may decrease by 2% due to competition with grains. Despite the potential increase in supply, adverse weather conditions will likely keep productivity below the potential of 85 tons per hectare. The ethanol production is expected to grow in line with this increase, and sugar prices for 2022/23 are anticipated to remain steady or increase, as per the executive. The final crushing of sugarcane in the 2021/22 season saw a 13.3% decrease, and sugar and ethanol production dropped by 16.7% and 8.7%, respectively. Sugar exports volumetically dropped by 8.8%, but revenue increased by 7%.
