The article highlights a significant surge in the population of Russian sturgeon and stellate sturgeon in the Sea of Azov over the past 3-5 years, as reported by the Azov-Black Sea branch of VNIRO. This increase is attributed to the change in the legal status of the sea to internal waters of Russia, which has permitted the implementation of scientific recommendations for sturgeon stock restoration. Factors contributing to this trend include increased protection of aquatic bioresources and the release of millions of young sturgeons annually. In 2024, the release reached 12.4 million specimens.
