The UK government has implemented emergency measures to protect its pig industry from African Swine Fever (ASF). Starting September 27, personal imports of pork and pork products from the European Economic Area, the Faroe Islands, Greenland, and Switzerland will be prohibited unless they meet EU trading standards and weigh under 2kg. This action aims to prevent ASF from entering the UK, which could potentially destroy its £8 billion pig industry and its £600 million in annual pork exports. The UK has not experienced an ASF outbreak and maintains strict controls on commercial meat imports.
