NOAA Fisheries has distributed USD 9 million to various academic institutions, primarily to the Cooperative Institute for Marine, Earth, and Atmospheric Systems at the University of California, Santa Cruz, to conduct research aimed at boosting Pacific salmon populations. The funding, part of the Inflation Reduction Act's USD 27 million allocation for salmon recovery, will support the development of new tools to evaluate recovery strategies and address information gaps. Additionally, the research will consider the effects of different habitats on salmon throughout their life cycles.
