The USDA's latest report shows a 2.4% increase in milk production in the 24 major dairy states to 17.4 billion pounds in February 2024, compared to the same month in 2023. However, when adjusted for the leap year, there was a one percent decrease in daily production. The number of milk cows fell by 89 thousand from the previous year, but rose by 10 thousand from January 2024. California continues to lead in milk production, followed by Wisconsin, Texas, Idaho, and New York, while Michigan has the highest milk-per-cow average.
