The Ministry of Agriculture has warned large sugar producers about the potential for a new agreement that could cap the price of sugar at 50–53 rubles per kilogram, due to concerns over a sharp increase in wholesale sugar prices. This increase has been attributed to the depreciation of the ruble. The original price agreement, made between the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Agriculture, sugar producers, and retail chains in December 2020, capped the wholesale cost at 36 rubles per kilogram.
