In 2024, Vietnam witnessed remarkable growth in its durian exports, with China continuing to be the primary market, contributing to 90% of the total revenue of over 2.8 billion USD in 11 months, marking a 43% increase from the previous year. The exports experienced a significant surge in growth across various markets, including Thailand, Hong Kong, and Japan, with Hong Kong and Japan showing 16% and 85% growth respectively. The durian exports played a crucial role in the broader fruit and vegetable export revenue, which reached over 3.1 billion USD, marking a 44% increase and setting a record for the industry's best year to date. With the anticipation of further market expansion in China for value-added durian products in 2025, the future looks bright for the durian and overall fruit and vegetable export sectors in Vietnam. Additionally, the exports of other tropical fruits like bananas, jackfruit, mangoes, and coconuts saw notable increases, benefiting from the liberalization of the Chinese market and the opening of the US market for fresh Vietnamese coconuts and passion fruit, signaling a positive trajectory for the future of Vietnam's fruit and vegetable exports.
