The article highlights the challenges faced by Vietnamese fruit and vegetable producers exporting to China, with a focus on the impact of strict quality control, transportation difficulties, and competition from Chinese domestic producers. Since 2019, China has tightened export controls and reduced informal trade, affecting the efficiency and profitability of exports, particularly given the significant market share held by Vietnamese producers. The COVID-19 pandemic further disrupted exports, leading to quarantine requirements and increased testing for certain products. Additionally, Chinese farmers are expanding cultivation areas for key Vietnamese crops, exacerbating competition. Vietnamese producers are urged to improve quality and professionalism to retain market share. The article also emphasizes the need for compliance with China's phytosanitary standards and warnings about pesticide contamination. The Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is developing a strategy to address these challenges, including regulating product flows to prevent congestion and adding more products to official export lists through high-level talks with China.
