Vietnamese durian exports have experienced a remarkable surge, reaching US$2.1 billion in 2023, up from US$288 million in the previous year, primarily due to the vast market in China, which accounts for 99.4% of these exports. This growth is part of a broader increase in the country's fruit and vegetable exports, which rose by over 70% to US$970 million in the first two months of the year alone. With the expansion of durian planting areas in Vietnam's southern and central regions and the nearing completion of market access procedures for coconut and frozen durian between Vietnam and China, the Vietnamese durian industry is on a trajectory for further expansion. Industry stakeholders are encouraged to enhance quality and processing capabilities to tap into the anticipated global market demand of US$28.6 billion by 2025.
