Vietnam's sweet potato exports to China increased nine-fold to $2.1 million in the first 10 months of this year, while pepper exports increased six times to $23 million. The General Administration of Customs of China issued an announcement on the phytosanitary requirements for imported Vietnamese sweet potatoes in 2022, and the first batch of Vietnamese sweet potatoes was officially exported to China in April of this year. Despite a previous ban on Vietnamese peppers due to pesticide residue issues, the General Administration of Customs of China has now issued an export license to a Vietnamese company, leading to a sharp rise in the prices of sweet potatoes and peppers in Vietnam.
