The article highlights the significant milestone achieved by Peru's coffee industry, with the first export of Villa Rica coffee from the Oxapampa province in Pasco. Recognized as one of the finest coffees in the world, Villa Rica has been granted a Denomination of Origin (DO) status by the National Institute for the Defense of Competition and the Protection of Intellectual Property (Indecopi), thanks to the Peruvian-Swiss Intellectual Property Project (PESIPRO). This initiative has supported the revision of regulations, simplifying the certification process and ensuring quality standards for producers. The first shipment, consisting of 49 bags, is exported to Argentina. The DO label not only signifies quality but also protects products from a specific region, in this case, the Villa Rica district. This achievement is expected to boost the economic prospects of around 1,200 coffee producers and is part of wider efforts to strengthen intellectual property rights in Peru, contributing to the country's economic development.
