Spain: Walnut producers warn of the disadvantage with third countries due to phytosanitary "limitations" in the EU

Walnut producers have warned this Thursday about the situation of "competitive disadvantage" that the national sector faces with respect to imports from third countries due to the phytosanitary "limitations" in the European Union (EU), especially due to the use of cyanamide. This was stated by the sector after the meeting held by the walnut and pecan committee of the Spanish Federation of Associations of Fruit and Vegetable Exporters (Fepex), as reported by the federation in a statement. During the meeting , producers have confirmed that in countries such as the United States and Chile, main suppliers to the national and community market, active materials such as cyanamide, prohibited in the European Union due to its negative effects on health, can be used.
