Peru's avocado exports have seen a decrease in both volume and value in the first two months of 2022, primarily due to the conflict in Ukraine disrupting commercial markets. The conflict led to a 6% decrease in volume and 19% decrease in value in February, compared to the same period last year. Russia, previously the third largest recipient of Peruvian avocados, saw a 49% decrease in imports, while Spain and the Netherlands also experienced declines. The rise in prices of essential goods such as gas, oil, corn, and wheat in Europe has further impacted the demand for avocados. Despite these challenges, efforts to extend the Peruvian avocado campaign aim to maintain year-round shipments.
