Turkey is facing a sunflower oil crisis due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict, with Russia refusing to allow 15-16 ships carrying oil to leave the Sea of Azov. The Vegetable Oil Manufacturers' Association has urged the Ministry of Commerce for adequate oil stocks and has requested urgent action from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Russian Embassy to allow the ships to pass. The situation is further complicated by the escalating prices of crude sunflower oil, which has risen from $1400 to over $2,000 a ton. Turkey, as the world's largest sunflower importer, relies heavily on Ukraine and Russia for imports, and the conflict has significantly disrupted these imports.
