In Ukraine, watermelon prices are falling rapidly. This is reported by the telemarathon "Unified News." At the end of July, watermelons became almost a third cheaper than last year – now a kilogram of this berry at wholesale prices costs 14 hryvnias. The reason for this is cited as the mass ripening of melons due to the heat. Operators of the agrarian market predict that watermelons may become even cheaper, but this year they may not be as juicy and sweet as usual, because the drought in the southern regions is taking its toll. According to Roman Petrov, Deputy Head of the Main Department of the State Consumer Rights Protection Service in Kyiv, when buying watermelon, one should follow safety rules. The fruit must be whole, with a firm skin, without cracks or damage. A yellow spot at the bottom is a sign that the watermelon ripened on the field.
