Bulgarian Christians will be facing the most expensive Christmas bread in the country's history due to a significant increase in the cost of flour. The price of flour in Bulgaria has surged by 100%, and European flour by approximately 50%. This was highlighted by Mariana Kukusheva, the chairwoman of the National Branch Union of Bakers and Confectioners. She attributed this surge in prices to the presence of the gray sector in the milling industry, a shrinking market, and the high costs of energy. The high energy prices are causing unpredictability and are a major factor in bakers closing their operations. The union is advocating for long-term energy contracts for producers to stabilize the market and reduce costs.
