President Alexander Lukashenko of Belarus has emphasized the importance of advancing science and technology in agriculture to ensure technological sovereignty, food security, and increased export opportunities. During a meeting with the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, he discussed the progress in the seed sector and the challenges it faces. The president highlighted the success of domestic varieties of malting barley and corn in reducing production costs and achieving desired quality characteristics. The Brest region's agricultural enterprises have benefited from high-quality seed material of domestic selection, leading to record gross threshing and achieving self-sufficiency in grain production. The country has almost ceased purchasing hard wheat varieties, opting for domestic selection for pasta production. This approach has been key in achieving food security and breaking stereotypes about Belarus's agricultural capabilities.
