Ethiopia's wheat production is predicted to decrease by 5% in the 2023/24 season due to a dry climate, resulting in an estimated harvest of 5.5 million tons. The previous year's yield was 1.9 tons per hectare, down 24% from the initial estimate, due to conflicts, high fertilizer prices, and mid-season drought. Ethiopia is the largest wheat producer in sub-Saharan Africa, with cultivation primarily taking place on rainfed small farms in the southern and central highlands.
