The European Union is experiencing a rise in the consumption of organic products, despite a slight decrease in imports of such goods between 2019 and 2020, as reported by the European Commission. In 2020, the EU imported 2.79 million tonnes of organic food products, which was 1.9% less than in 2019. The imports were dominated by tropical fruits and organic rice, while sugar, flour, and other cereals saw a decline. The Netherlands was the primary entry point for these organic products, with Ecuador, the Dominican Republic, China, and Ukraine being the main suppliers. The imports of organic fruit and vegetables were the most dynamic, with the EU importing 1.29 million tonnes in 2020, which represented 46% of total imports.
